It is no secret that Scotland is a paradise for whisky lovers. Even if it isn’t your drink of choice, visiting a distillery is still a fascinating experience. With frequent new openings, be one of the first to taste and tour at the distilleries we are most looking forward to visiting when they open later this year.
Port of Leith Distillery, Edinburgh
This unique ‘vertical’ distillery is set to open early 2023 on the waterfront next to the Royal Yacht Britannia. The building will feature 2 copper casks and a top floor double height whisky bar with unrivalled views over Leith, Edinburgh Castle and the Fife coast.
8 Door Distillery, John O’Groats
8 Doors Distillery which opened in September 2022 will be the northern most distillery on mainland Scotland. They will offer a wide range of tours and tastings in a modern building. It makes the most of the incredible Pentland Firth views with large windows in the whisky lounge and visitors centre. The small-batch whisky will reflect the surroundings of it’s production with the sea mist, ocean spray and cooler climates.
Glen Luss, Loch Lomond
The founders of the Glen Luss Distillery are converting an old smokehouse on the shores of Loch Lomond. There will be a distillery, micro-brewery and museum offering insights into the local area. They will offer unique experiences such as walks, cask experiences and a making & tasting experience. Update: opening has been delayed.
Eden Mills, St Andrews
Set to open early 2023, Eden Mills new distillery will be one of the first carbon neutral single malt whisky distilleries in Scotland located within the University of St Andrews’ Eden Campus. Heating and power will come from a biomass plant and solar panels. They are also switching out their ceramic bottles for recycled glass bottles.
After 25 years the Rosebank distillery in Falkirk is reopening late summer this year after being purchased by Ian Macleod Distillers. Known as ‘King of the Lowlands’ whisky, the distillery is set on the banks of the Forth and Clyde canal between Edinburgh and Glasgow and will offer tastings and tours. Update: opening has been delayed.
